Webelos Outdoor Weekend (WOW)
A Webelos Outdoor Weekend (WOW) is going to be held at Camp Seph Mack April 20-22, 2012. Please read the details below. Click on the WOW tab for additional information.

Although this weekend is designed as both an adult leader training and Webelos Scout activity, adult parents who are NOT currently registered as CubScout/Webelos Den Leaders are welcome to attend. However, in order to at-tend each Webelos Scout MUST be accompanied by a “paid” parent/guardian who will participate in the adult training portion of the weekend.
Adults Leaders may attend just for the training without an accompanied Webelos Scout.
Please note: Parents/adult leaders should be aware that the adult leader training portion of this course will be held in a separate area in camp apart from the Webelos Scout activities. There will be limited opportunity during the daytime schedule to be with the accompanying Webelos scout.

Each participant will be required to provide
personal sleeping equipment
(i.e. tent, sleeping bag, bed roll, blankets, pillows).
Registrants will receive complete equipment list
All participants must bring a completed Part A “BSA Annual Health Form”.
This course satisfies National BSA requirements for:
Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders training.
Price per person for this weekend is $40.

Free Rank Advancements
Laurel Highlands Council is offering free rank badges to qualifying units. To qualify, a unit must:
1) Earn at least the Silver Level in Journey to Excellence
2) Have hosted a 2011 FOS presentation and have scheduled a 2012 FOS presentation
3) Participated in the 2011 council popcorn sale and commit to participating again in 2012.
Whenever your unit has met all three of the requirements, you may complete and turn in your form. Once the form has been verified and signed your unit will be able to start receiving the free advancements.
If your unit did not host a 2011 FOS presentation and/or sell popcorn in 2011, you may want to consider participating in these events in 2012 so your unit is eligible for the free rank advancements in 2013.
To obtain or turn in a form, contact your District Commissioner or Unit Service Executive.

BASIC ADULT LEADER OUTDOOR ORIENTATION
Pack Camping has come a long way and it is one of the strongest reasons boys join the Cub Scout program. For a Pack to go camping however there MUST be at least one registered leader on the outing that is BALOO trained. BALOO is a 7 hour indoor and outdoor training which helps with understanding the BSA progressive camping program. The training reviews guidelines established by the Boy Scouts of America and the Laurel Highlands Council to help us understand the value of the outdoor program. Registration starts at 7:45 a.m. The course starts at 8:30 a.m.
BALOO Training is scheduled for the following dates and locations:
March 31, 2012 Camp Anawanna, Nemacolin
May 19, 2012 Camp Guyasuta, Shell-to-wee
October 20, 2012 Camp Seph Mack, Dining Hall
The cost of the course is $25.00. The early bird fee is $20.00 if received two weeks before the course. Because of course limitations all participants MUST pre-register. Course fee and registration form are due no later than one week before the course date.
